Nursing Education Philosophy
To be a nurse is to keep patients safe, help them heal, and advocate for their needs. Being an educator means guiding students in acquiring specialized nursing skills and knowledge. In nursing, many skill sets are necessary to be a competent nurse. Based on evidence-based practice, nurses must manage complex medical patients in fast-paced environments that result in good patient outcomes. Nurses need to be able to support and care for patients when they are sick and develop caring relationships. Nurses facilitate clear communication within the care team and help educate patients on medical procedures, disease processes, and medications. As a teacher and a nurse, the fundamental belief must be that no one knows everything and that healthcare knowledge can change, and so will evidence-based practice based on new research. When educating nursing students, I aim to guide nurses on a lifelong journey of learning, managing stressful situations, being effective communicators, and learning to advocate for safety.
